Member Spotlight: Nidia Cueva‏

Photographer and independent curator, Nidia Cueva invites you to experience her current curatorial showcase of The Cueva Project, on view through this Saturday, August 28th...

THE CUEVA PROJECT

THE CUEVA PROJECT IS ABOUT NEW, FUN & CRAZY EXPERIMENTS IN THE ART MOVEMENT. WE REPRESENT THE YOUNG, OLD, FAT, SKINNY, SMART, DORKY, & DEPRESSING ARTISTS OF THE WORLD AND OH YEAH, WE SHOW THEIR WORK IN A TRUCK.

After brilliantly showcasing in June 2009, t.c.p. is back for more.!

t.c.p. will be featuring the works of 4 artists, new to t.c.p.through August 28 at Lola & Maria located at 175 Rivington Street, NYC, 4-8pm.

The featured artists are invigorating, fresh and hip. Luis Garcia, from California, has created simple yet beautiful photographic pieces, most of which come from a personal perspective. His latest work features portraits of trend setting artists and creatives from Tijuana. Preston Spurlock, from New York City, is an illustrator who is known for fun, colorful and uncensored creations. With his camera he has produced inspiring and thought provoking clips of everyday encounters that are, sometimes, completely random. Jarid Rychtarik, from South Dakota, uses the people he encounters on a daily basis and portrays them in comical and exaggerated ways. His curious and entertaining style of work will be sure to provoke lighthearted fun. Margaret Ward, from New York City, is a painter, mix
media sculptor, set designer and print maker. Humor, visuals and the anxiety of urban life around her assist in creating her works. Her latest piece will be a metaphorical landscape where daydreams and obsession meet.

The Cueva Project is now in its second year. After a great showing in the Chelsea district of NYC, the project has grown but its mission statement remains the same – to show off talented artist in interesting environments. This project is purely based on natural impulse and there are no set guidelines or trademarks. t.c.p. really exists to expose art and is a means for artists to create and expose their art freely.

Hope to see you!

If you have further questions, please call my cell: 917-861-8612

All the best, Ingvild

AWAKEN YOUR CREATIVE POWERS WITH VEDIC ART

Vedic Art consists of Seventeen principles that guide you to create your life and art from your heart.

No artistic skills needed. All are welcome!

SHORT INTRODUCTION

The origins of Vedic art comes from the 5000 year old Indian Vedas. This knowledge was brought to the west by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who chose the Swedish artist Curt Kallmann to develop and introduce this sacred teachings to the West. Now it is available for the first time in the USA through the Norwegian artist and teacher Ingvild Waerhaug-Baron, a student of Curt´s.

The seventeen principles of Vedic Art are a map that activates your creative life force through practical, meditative and playful activities. Vedic Art is available for everyone, and is beneficial whether or not you have artistic experience. We use painting and drawing to awaken the intuitive creator within. Vedic art calls forth your creativity from deep down in your subconscious. This can help you become more confident about yourself and your potentials.

There is no right or wrong in this workshop; the focus is on the creative process. Students of all levels work side by side with the common understanding that comments are not made about each other’s work. This creates a safe, non-judgmental environment. Together we make a peaceful atmosphere where our creativity flourishes, our hearts open, and above all we have fun!

Read the full story about how Vedic Art came to Scandinavia, and now to the USA, in the interview with Ingvild Waerhaug from the Magazine **´VISION´** or click the link:

Review: By Johanne Wold: Little by little I let go…soon I am full of paint stains, and time and space disappears and I am immersed in the creative process. I start with a single brush stroke, and before I know it I have a finished painting in front of me. Only when I am done, I see what I have created, and the result surprises me many times. At the end of each day I´m exhausted, but happy. I hang the pictures on the wall at home and feel a warm pleasure of being surrounded by my own creative powers.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

You may also take part 2 at a later time. If you have already taken Part 1 at a previous weekend, you may take Part 2 at either of the upcoming weekends.   honor to be chosen to produce and perform in the NYC Fringe Festival
this year!

This has been a labor of love (and deadlines!) not to mention a
challenge learning the Southie accent of Marshfield (Maaashfield)
Mass!
I would love to have you attend this show!

Tickets are available for purchase now and you are encouraged to buy
them on line (see postcard below or attachment for more info) or at

Member Spotlight: Cornelia Jensen 2X2 Closing Party‏

Come for a Sunday afternoon of music and art...

2X2 exhibition closing party
featuring a performance by legendary musician song writer Miwa Gemini

Sunday August 8th from 3-7pm
Windows Gallery
1303 Jackson Avenue
Long Island City, NY

Art on display by:

Camille Altay
Mark Enger
Matt Enger
Eric Holmes
Cornelia Jensen
Michael Jensen
Rebecca Michaels
Kevin Wellech

The name 2X2 refers to the theme size of the wall art, two feet by two feet, and the relationships between the participating artists. The artists include two couples and two pairs of siblings. It will be interesting to contemplate the similarities and differences between the pieces created by people in such close relation to each other. There may be apparent convergent or divergent evolution between people’s personal expression. We may notice the power of influence whether it is inspiration or reaction. These very close relationships represent the first, most basic level of community and how well it functions. This can then remind us of the functioning of community as a larger phenomenon.
